Disney’s Upcoming Live-Action Re-Makes!

Did you find yourself jumping with joy when you heard about the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast? Have you found yourself daydreaming about that breath-taking dress that Cinderella wears to the ball? If you’ve been a fan of Disney‘s recent takes on their classic films, then this is the post for you!

Following the box office success of Beauty and the Beast, most Disney fanatics are cheering for more of their favorites to be re-introduced to the big screen. Not only does this allow for nostalgia infected adults to sing and cry along with the classics, but also for the stories to be brought to life to the younger generations in theaters in addition to watching the animated versions at home.

Here are some of the movies that Disney has announced will be turned into live-action adaptations through the years to come!

1. Mulan- November 2, 2018

Mulan is the story of a young woman who lives in China, and goes to war in place of her injured father for his protection. She defies gender roles and defeats her enemies, earning the compliments of the emperor!

For this adaptation, casting agents are searching China for actors to fill the powerful primary roles, as well as the role of the girl-power icon herself!

This adaptation will be released in November of 2018.

2. Cruella- 2018

Cruella De Vil, if she doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will! Much like Maleficent had a chance to explain her side of a story where she was the villain, this movie will follow a young Cruella De Vil.

This classic 101 Dalmations villain is rumored to be played by Emma Stone, and I can picture her now yelling abut puppies!

Catch this interesting looking prequel in theaters next year!

3. Peter Pan – 2018

Out of all of the adaptations of J.M Barrie‘s children’s story, Disney‘s 1953 animated Peter Pan is still one of the most successful.

This classic tale follows Peter Pan who lives in a fantastical world called Neverland, in which, you never grow up. One night while flying over London, Peter Pan befriends three siblings and takes them back to Neverland with him where they experience pirate battles, and sleep in the base of a tree.

This upcoming live-action version will be directed by David Lowery, the person who directed the recent live-action Pete’s Dragon.

Look forward to this film for sometime next year! I’m excited to see a birds-eye view of the London streets while the characters fly above it.

4. Winnie the Pooh

That’s right! Everyone’s favorite silly old bear is coming back. This time though, we are following Christopher Robin as an adult who somehow comes across his old friends.

The information on the story-line that has been released so far leads me to believe that it will feel like Toy Story in which the main conflict is separation, and growing up while still maintaining a childlike spirit. In other words, bring a box of tissues because I’m sure you’ll need them!

The date for the release of this movie is yet to be announced.

5. The Lion King

After the release of the live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book, Disney announced that a live-action Lion King is in the works.

The Lion King is a story that follows young lion, Simba and his royal family. When someone tries to rid of Simba and his father in a quest for the throne, Simba escapes and finds family in an unexpected place. After growing into a proud lion, Simba returns to retake his family’s homeland.

The plot of the upcoming live-action version is going to be the same as the original animated version, and James Earl Jones is back to voice Mufasa! It’ll be just like watching the classic but with realistic effects.

The filming for this anticipated movie will begin this May! The release date is not yet announced.

6. Dumbo

In 1941, the world was introduced to the cutest little elephant with an unexpected talent! This classic film taught the importance of loving yourself the way you are, and embracing your unique qualities.

That lesson will be taught again in the upcoming live-action film, but with a twist. This adaptation is going to be directed by Tim Burton who is known for his creatively creepy style. This is not the first time Disney has worked with Tim Burton as he was involved with movies such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie, and the live-action adaptations of Alice in Wonderland.

The filming of the live-action Dumbo will begin in the spring of this year!

7. Aladdin

Aladdin is a story that has everything. Magic, a heroic adventurer, a princess, and an evil villain. It has the whole Disney package. That’s why it’s not hard to believe that it’s going to be turned into a live-action move!

The story of Aladdin follows a poor boy who comes across a magic lamp that contains an all powerful genie who can grant him three wishes! But, he has to keep it away from Jafar, the royal vizier who does not want to use the power for good.

The casting of the live-action Aladdin is happening now, and filming will begin this summer!

8. The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid inspired many people around the world to want to be mermaids (and many others to dye their hair red)! This Hans Christian Anderson story is about a 16 year old mermaid who spots the partner of her dreams. There’s only one drawback – he’s human! After making a dangerous deal with a sea-witch, Ariel has limited time to share a true love’s kiss with the target of her affection.

The music in The Little Mermaid is one of the best parts about it! This is why for the Disney live-action adaptation, the original writer of the music, Alan Menken is being paired with Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana song writer, Hamilton star) to combine old and new songs, creating a unique score!

Not to be confused with Universal Pictures’ new movie also based on the Hans Christian Anderson classic, the release date for this film is yet to be announced.
